Davao City Ranks 4th Among Top Startup Hubs in the Philippines

Davao City continues to make waves in the innovation space, securing the 4th spot nationwide and 1st in Mindanao in the 2024 Global Startup Ecosystem Index. This recognition reflects the city's growing reputation as a dynamic hub for startups and tech-driven entrepreneurship.

🚀According to Christian Cambaya, Head of the Investor Assistance Servicing Unit at the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), the city's success is rooted in its proactive support for startups. A key milestone was the recent launch of the Davao Angel Investors Network, designed to boost investments in local innovation.

“Davao City is becoming a hotspot for innovative startups,” Cambaya shared.
“We are creating an environment that nurtures homegrown talent and scalable business ideas.”

Davao's startup ecosystem shines in areas like software and data, financial technology, and educational technology, with strong backing from government agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and partnerships with the private sector.

Universities in the city—including UP Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao, and University of Mindanao—host Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) that offer mentoring, resources, and training for aspiring entrepreneurs.

In addition to mentorship, startups also benefit from financial support through programs like the DOST Startup Grant Fund, NEDA Innovation Fund, and DICT Startup Grants.

Signature events such as the Mindanao Incubator Summit and Davao Startup Week continue to drive collaboration between startups, investors, and thought leaders, fostering a sense of community and innovation.

“These initiatives help us build a startup ecosystem that is inclusive, impactful, and scalable,” Cambaya noted.
“They also empower us to solve local challenges, create jobs, and stimulate long-term economic growth.”

With continued support from the City Government of Davao and the DCIPC, Davao is set to strengthen its role as a leading startup hub in the Philippines.
